One of Brent’s biggest strengths is his ability and willingness to put himself in a dangerous position in order to get a good photo. Here’s Koa Rothman and proof.

Spewing.

Like John John Florence, photographer Brent Bielmann grew up on the North Shore of Oahu. The two feel awfully at home in Tahiti.

In case you haven’t noticed, SURFING has taken a vested interest in covering the 2014 WCT events.

From nightly contest galleries with easily digestible write-ups to freesurf/layday updates to comprehensive flipbooks that bring you, the fan, backstage for every event, our goal is to be your one-stop shop for everything besides actually watching the webcast.

But what separates us from other media outlets? Our photographers.

For Tahiti, we bring you Brent Bielmann. 26 years old from the North Shore of Oahu. Brent’s biggest strength? Swimming in the heaviest waves on earth with a waterhousing in hand. Matching strength with location, Brent’s the perfect fit to cover the Billabong Pro Tahiti. You know he’s going to blow minds with crazy fisheye angles during freesurfs, but it doesn’t stop there.

Our flipbooks require a well rounded shooter who can creatively cover the contest action and comfortably hang with the best surfers in the world to bring you behind the scenes. Waking up before the sun and constantly pushing yourself to out-think dozens of other photographers who are trying to do the same thing as you.

It takes 15-hour work days and eating dinner at your computer while color correcting and transferring files. A grind, sure — but occasionally you look away from your screen and remember you’re in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Look for Brent’s work from Tahiti right here on surfingmagazine.com for the next couple weeks, ending with a full portfolio of imagery for the Billabong Pro Tahiti Flipbook. But for now, enjoy this gallery of photos from Brent’s Tahiti trips of the past. —Jimmicane
