THE PACSUN USA SURF TEAM IS CURRENTLY FIRST HEADING INTO THE FINAL TWO DAYS OF COMPETITION. BELIEVE IT.
We promise — this time’s for real. With only two days left to go in the 2009 Billabong ISA World Surfing Games, the United States still has plenty of surfers advancing on, bringing us closer to that long overdue gold. With this many surfers still left in contention, the inevitable had to happen in the latest rounds of battle: countryman on countryman. Cory Lopez and Austin Ware were the first to face-off. And although Cory took the spoils, Austin was able to fight back in a later repercharge round and stay in the game. Benny B has been on fire, too, along with loggers Tony Silvagni and Steve Newton. This, all good. So good, in fact, that the Stars and Stripes are sitting on top of the world with a 2,120 point lead. Ooh Rah.
The current top five nations are:
1st – USA – 19080 points
2nd – Hawaii – 16960 points
3rd – Australia – 16720 points
4th – South Africa -15040 points
5th – France -14040 points
