Jaws Comp Is ON for Thursday/Friday

Second swell of the season at Jaws and the WSL pulls the trigger.

Swell number one, which is happening at this very moment, is sizable but rather windy — similar conditions to what we witnessed in 2015. Competitors and contest organizers wished to avoid such conditions for this year’s event, as they make for an unsafe and difficult competitive playing field. Swell number two will be slightly smaller but is forecasted to have light trade winds, thus making it an enticing option for the WSL Big Wave World Tour.

Once again the WSL is conveniently holding the Jaws event suspiciously close to the women’s Maui Pro at Honolua Bay. This makes sense for the WSL, as the organization will save significant dinero by not having to haul their entire infrastructure over to Maui multiple times. Is this the best swell of the season? Probably not. But hey, last year provided the goods despite its imperfections, so we’ve got high hopes for Friday.

P.S. We’re pulling for you, @johnjohn_slater.
