All Boys Advance through First Day of Competition at the 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships – Girls’ Heats Start Tomorrow
Piha, New Zealand – Thursday, January 21 – The 2010 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships started today in Piha, New Zealand with the opening rounds of the Boys Under 18 and Boys Under 16 Divisions.
Amidst on and off sunshine, a cross-shore wind, and a few light drizzles of rain, the Piha beachbreak produced a disorganized 4-foot swell that is expected to build and clean up over the next couple of days. All eight of the PacSun USA Surf Team boys advanced through their heats into Qualifying Round Two scheduled for tomorrow. Also, the girls take to the water tomorrow in what’s expected to be a great opening day of competition for them.
“The Team had a good first day,” commented Ian Cairns, Team USA’s head coach. “We just need to keep it going-one heat at a time. We’ve got contenders, 4-deep, in every division–and our objective is to stay in the moment, focused on the task at hand.”
