After two trials, 32 surfers gather the 16 pre-qualified competitors for
the competition that will determine the Brazilian Oakley Pro Junior champion
in Ubatuba City.
After two trials sessions with one-meter high surf in Ubatuba, 32 surfers
qualified for the main competition of the Oakley Pro Jr. Brazil. Those
juniors will join the other 16 pre-qualified surfers of the tournament,
making for an intense battle for the Brazilian leg of the Oakley Pro
Junior. With 40,000 reals (BRL) in prize money, the Oakley Pro Jr has
changed its format and this year will be disputed as a WCT stage. The
main rounds will happen this Wednesday, around 8 am, with 16 heats of
three surfers, with the first one advancing for the third phase and the
others going to round two.
"This new format is amazing, and is already a good example to get
us ready for the WCT. I think it will be awesome, and I hope I can get
to the end and win the competition", says Jadson André, the
2007 under 18 year-old world champion from Rio Grande do Norte. Jadson
will compete on the 12th heat of the day, against Peterson Crisanto and
Ronaldo Alves, both from Paraná.
The qualifiers were determined in two stages. In the first stage of
41 surfers, the first two placing surfers guarantee their placement at
the main event, while the losers will have a chance for placement in
the second stage. All the daily results will be available on oakleyprojunior.com/
Some surfers who were detached on the Rio Surf Pro, that finished on
Sunday at Grumari beach in Rio de Janeiro, also confirmed the good stage
and guaranteed their placements, like Hugo Bittencourt, from Rio de Janeiro.
Hugo guarantee his when he got the second place on the duel against Emerson
Silva. This Wednesday the level of surfing will be high, with the pre-qualifier
competitions. Names like Miguel Pupo, twice winner of Oakley Jr Challenge
of the under 16 year-old category (until last year the competition had
two categories), Wiggolly Dantas, Jerônimo Vargas, Charlie Brown,
Matheus Toledo e Thiago Camarão and many others.
