Nico Manos, the gentleman in this photo, posts some stunning lineups from Nova Scotia on his Instagram, @nicomanos. This was taken the day our plane landed in Halifax. Sadly, we never saw it like this again.

We did find this playful left, though. It was guarded by the biggest mosquitos we’d ever seen. Jurassic Park shit. And thousands of them.

Craig rides a Shred Sled.

You could see three perfect waves from the house where we stayed. Perfect waves for longboarding, but still, pretty.

We did a lot of sitting in Canada. As with most things, Dane was the best at it.

There is no shortage of setups like this in Nova Scotia.

Offshore used to be the most coveted wind direction in surfing. Then it was onshore, for the airs. And now it’s offshore, for the airs. Maybe everyone’s just getting a lot better at surfing.

At night, over lobster and wine, a notepad would be passed around to try and come up with a name for Craig’s movie. Beach Karate was one of the favorites. Maybe this is why. (We’ve since learned the actual name of the movie. Somehow it’s even better than Beach Karate.)

Dane is a black belt. The ocean is his dojo.

It’s fun to watch Craig when he’s bored…

…even when he gives up, he does it with stylish flare.

Another “almost” wave. Surfer really needs to do a longboard trip here.

Fun fact: Whale doesn’t taste fishy. (Because whales aren’t fishes.)

This was Dane’s first trip in 4 months, as he’d developed an anxiety disorder from travelling too much. He was relaxed in Nova Scotia, though. Life’s pace is slow there.

When Dane caught waves at this pointbreak he’d ride on his belly three-quarters of the way down the face, then stand up, crank a bottom turn straight into a carve like this. He rode a Neck Beard most days.

Later that day, Craig stacked no less than eight of those rocks on top of each other.

This wave was Trestles-esque. Although it was unanimously decided that no wave, anywhere, is quite like Trestles.

Off to catch a whale…
