Young 21 year old Hawaiian surfer, Matt Meola is the new phenomenon of the surfing planet.
Thanks to his aerial and aggressive style, he became one of the most creative riders of his generation. Born and raised in Maui, he has a deep connection with the ocean. Constantly looking for new sensations, Matt often faces Jaws beyond any notion of competition.
He is really enthusiastic to join the Oxbow Team: “I am very excited to be joining the Oxbow team. I have always been intrigued by the brand and the diversity of the riders.” says Matt. “Oxbow really understands the concept of free surfing. Recently, I made my first trip to France and loved the whole experience – the people, the food and the women. I look forward to what the future holds.”
With his truly committed way of surfing, Matt brings Oxbow renewal and creativity.
He will definitely be a leader of the surfing area, among riders like Kai Lenny or Antoine Delpéro.
“During his last trip to Europe, Matt did an interview which was decisive in our choice to get him into the team. His vision of surfing totally matches our brand positioning: the search of a confrontation with the natural elements without any limits, to allow freedom and creativity…” says Vincent Roussel, Oxbow Marketing Director.
The arrival of Matt Meola in the team comes at key time for Oxbow. The brand is indeed working for several months on its repositioning in the boardsports universe.
“Matt Meola was one of the profiles missing in our team. The brand development goes through the integration and the media exposure of outstanding riders! We got it with Matt!” adds Matthieu Bazil, Oxbow CEO.
Matt Meola will have his own part in Taylor Steel’s new movie, “Innersection”. A preview is already planed in Maui, the 26th of November.
