2004 NSSA NATIONALS: DAY ONE

posted by / News / June 23, 2004

Surf:A long awaited south swell showing signs of life and continuing to grow through out the day. The later the heat, the better. Events Held:{{{Explorer}}} Seniors Quarterfinals and Repercharge, Explorer Men’s Round One, Explorer Women Quarterfinals, Explorer Junior Men’s Round One, Explorer Menehune

Nature’s Call:Bring your short-arm full suits and wear those leather, sheep skin boots because it’s a bit nippy. Predicted:The talent-stacked heats and inconsistent conditions in the Junior Men’s will produce more triangles than the Pythagorean Theorem.

HEAT OF THE DAY: Menehunes Round One, Heat 3. Supergroms like Ezekiel Lau, Evan Geiselman and Nick Rupp plus a rising swell equals beach envy. During the heat, sets were more consistent than Chauncy Billups against the Lakers, and when one of the fluorescent colored jerseys missed a bomb you could hear the crowd let out a frustrated sigh.

PERFORMER OF THE DAY:Pat Gudauskas or Ezekiel Lau. Much props to Gudauskas for lighting it up in the Explorer Men’s. While Ezekiel Lau straight-up dominated his Menehunes heat.

SHOCKERS: There’s actually waves on the first day of competition! QUOTABLE: “Carissa Moore is going to win every division she enters, I have my bets on her.” –Explorer Juniors and Men’s Ola Eleogram, on who he sees ripping the hardest in the Menehune division. Daniel Ikaika Ito
