GRAVEYARD OF THE ATLANTIC

posted by / News / September 23, 2003

Less than a week after nixing the ESA Easterns, Hurricane Isabel’s path of destruction along the Outer Banks of North Carolina has caused the cancellation of the 2nd annual Fosters Outer Banks Pro presented by Wave Riding Vehicles.

Despite the destruction of the famous Kitty Hawk Pier, the Eastern Surfing Association and sponsor, Wave Riding Vehicles hoped the weekend would bring good news on the clean up of the area, however both the towns of Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills are still faced with massive storm clean-up, power outages and damaged road ways. There is a curfew in place for the beach neighborhoods around the Kitty Hawk Pier and officials are not allowing access to any beach areas in Kitty Hawk that are east of Hwy. 158.

The Eastern Surfing Association wishes to thank Fosters, Coastal Beverage, WRV, Food Lion, Coke, Body Glove, O’Neill, 99.1 The Sound and Power 92.3 radio and the Kitty Hawk Pier for their support and understanding. The event has been invited back for 2004 by the Town of Kitty Hawk and will return bigger and better next year.

Thank you all for your patience while we spent the past few xays gathering the necessary information to make this decision. To the athletes of the Fosters Pro Surfing Tour – best of luck at the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in October and we’ll see you on the East Coast first thing next spring at the JAX Beach Pro presented by Aqua East!
