PANCHO SULLIVAN WINS XCEL PRO

The 20th Annual Xcel Pro has been completed in six to eight foot surf atSunset Beach in perfect offshore conditions. Winning the event for thethird time in six years was the north shore’s veteran Pancho Sullivan.Sullivan took advantage of the west peaks as he drove hard off the top andbottom of every set wave he caught to take a commanding lead through thethirty-five minute final. Last year’s winner Fred Patacchia made a gallanteffort in the last eight minutes of the heat as he waited deeper in theSunset Point take off zone and scored a 9.5 score on a huge tube ride withfourty seconds left, to go from fourth to second place. Rounding the finalwas Nick Muscroft from Australia and eighteen year old Nathan Carroll fromSunset Beach ending fourth.In the Longboard Expression Session, Haleiwa’s Dino Miranda took first withKapono Nihina from Wahiawa second and Joey Valentin third.Results;$25,000.00ASP WQS two star event
