Dear Diary, I’m anxious.
My birthday is here and a weeklong celebration has started in my name. I’ve invited a bunch of my closest friends to Huntington Beach — about 500,000 or so — but I’m worried they won’t all get along.
Yes, there have been issues during my yearly gathering before. We’ve had a few fights and maybe a couple riots but that’s all in the past now, right? Rigggghhht?
I’m not sure.
These days it seems like everybody is divided on something. Where’s the middle ground? The unity? Instead of a melting pot of separate-but-equal partygoers, we’ve become a bitter salad dressing, with the oil and the vinegar and all the different spices shouting at one another across invisible lines. So lets shake things up. Together, let’s watch the surfing because it’s glorious. Let’s praise the skating because it’s invigorating. Let’s revere the Hall of Famers because they’re the best. Let’s make this birthday the best one of them all by negating all hate and embracing one another. Let’s party like it’s 1969.
SURFING will be providing an in-depth itinerary for the latter end of the week, so that you can effectively traverse the many facets of my fiesta. They will highlight the key heats, events, and nighttime happenings so there’s no guesswork on where you need to be. The itineraries will be dropping on a daily basis starting on Wednesday, and they’ll detail what to do and what not too miss on the following day.
So keep your eyes peeled and drink a lot of water, it’s gonna be a long week. Happy Birthday to me!
