This past weekend, March 4th and 5th, the NSSA held their Open event #8 at 54th Street in Newport Beach. The waves were insane all day on Saturday and most of the morning on Sunday. The kids were exploding on the sick right-handers coming off the jetty and the other waves down the beach. The airshow was supplied with launch ramps all over the place. Robert Curtis took down the competition with a solid frontside standard air.
Due to fog delay from the last event, Open Mini Grom final from event 7 was surfed before the finals began for event #8. Johnny Elles surfed amazing, smashing the lefts down the beach and taking the win. Open Mini Grom final from this event was won by none other than Parker Coffin. Parker ripped all weekend and was stoked to win since not surfing for a few weeks due to his being sick.
Finally, Open Junior’s surfed and Dillon Perillo battled the whole heat with local boy, Andrew Doheny. In the end, Dillon took the victory over Doheny. Dillon also made the Open Men’s final. Although Dillon got interference early in the heat, he didn’t let that stop him. Dillon let loose on a few sick rights and ended up winning his first ever, Open Men’s final.
