Jason Bogle Memorial and Fundraiser

posted by / News / November 4, 2004

On Friday, November 12th, the surfing spirit will manifest into something tangible from 9pm-2am. It will take place at the Hard Rock Caf in Honolulu. It will be for Jason Bogle, 26, — a recently deceased, but never forgotten surfer from the East Side of Oahu.

Jason struggled for 18 months with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, and in honor of his memory family, friends and the local surf community have combined their efforts to host a fundraising party for him. The money collected will be going to the party’s expenses and to the Ocean of Hope/Sarcoma {{{Alliance}}}.

In the months of Jason’s ailments his story was one of hope. When funds were lacking for the proper medical care, family members and surfers came together and raised the money for the expensive hospital bill; when Jason suffered through 17 weary rounds of chemotherapy he still managed to come home, say goodbye to his loved ones, and hit up one last surf with his friends. And now, in the wake of Jason’s death, those who surrounded him in life have transformed their grief into an event which reflects the ideal attitude of optimism that is so sacred to the activity of surfing.

A myriad of professionals such as Jun Jo, Shane Dorian, Ross Williams, Kalani Robb, Fred Patachia, Joel Centeio, Sean Moody, Jason Shibata, Sean Yano, Cade Oyadamori, Miller Brothers, Kekoa Bacalso, Mikala Jones, Daniel Jones, Jaime {{{Sterling}}}, Mike Dodd…(the list goes on), have donated their boards for a raffle, along with surf companies who will be donating prize packs.

Following the fundraising party, on the 13th a memorial service will be held for Jason at Backdoor at 3pm. For both events, the projected turn out is expected to be enormous. The Hard Rock Caf is even planning on opening its parking lot to make extra room.

INFO:Purchase tickets from the Hard Rock Caf, (808) 955-7383, anytime leading up to the event. Raffle winners will be notified within 24 hours after the drawing; one does not need to be present to win.
