Freewaters footwear announces the addition of brand ambassador Daniel Thomson, creator of Tomo Surfboards. Thomson is widely recognized as one of the most creative shapers in the world today and an incredible surfer in his own right.
“I’m very stoked on the opportunity to align with Freewaters,” comments Thomson. “It is a unique brand that creates highly functional products, promotes the free spirited surf lifestyle and has a social ethos in providing clean drinking water to those in need. I share those values and look forward to a rewarding future with Freewaters.“
Tomo is leading a new era of futuristic board design inspired by one of natures most fundamental and mysterious laws of sacred geometry: phi. “Everywhere in the ocean we can see the spiral energy – from perfect barreling waves to spinning storms,” adds Thomson. “Wouldn’t it make sense to apply a constant of phi to the geometry of surfboards?”
Born in Lennox Head, Australia, and influenced by legendary shapers Bob Simmons and John Elwell, Thomson now resides in Encinitas CA where he continually experiments with his MPH (Modern Planing-Hull) and Hydrofoil boards as an extension of a surfer’s body.
“Tomo has tapped into some very fascinating and primal stuff,” says Freewaters Co-Founder Eli Marmar. “Dan is a true artist and craftsman and we are honored to be a part of his journey.”
Tomo Surfboards has recently partnered with Firewire Surfboards, which has allowed Dan to align his shapes with Firewire’s progressive manufacturing techniques and strong distribution network. Firewire CEO Mark Price adds “Seeing the response from surfers around the world on the current Firewire/Tomo boards and being privy to his ideas for the future, I have no doubt that when the history of the modern shortboard is written Daniel’s contribution will at least match those of today’s established names”.
