Hurley Pro: Day 2

It wasn’t that bad. Round two staggered home in drawling Lowers earlier today, meeting nobody’s expectations for one of the best events of the year. But slow as it was, a handful of worthy walls still shed upon those darling cobblestones. All of the competitors were kids on the ‘QS before they were men on the ‘CT and groveling is just like riding a bike. There weren’t too many surprises, besides John John Florence losing to Alejo Muniz. Freddy P. also took the opportunity to remind everyone that he’s alive and well by comboing Miguel Pupo and netting the highest heat total of the day. Kolohe Andino stood out right behind Fred, routing Matt Wilkinson with a good blend of high-performance surfing. And we’ve still got plenty of upcoming firecrackers as the event moves forward. Round three looks a whole lot like this:

Heat 1: Jordy Smith (ZAF) vs. Brett Simpson (USA)
Heat 2: C.J. Hobgood (USA) vs. Gabriel Medina (BRA)
Heat 3: Taj Burrow (AUS) vs. Kolohe Andino (USA)
Heat 4: Adriano de Souza (BRA) vs. Fredrick Patacchia (HAW)
Heat 5: Kai Otton (AUS) vs. Jeremy Flores (FRA)
Heat 6: Kelly Slater (USA) vs. Patrick Gudauskas (USA)
Heat 7: Mick Fanning (AUS) vs. Alejo Muniz (BRA)
Heat 8: Michel Bourez (PYF) vs. Sebastian Zietz (HAW)
Heat 9: Josh Kerr (AUS) vs. Bede Durbidge (AUS)
Heat 10: Nat Young (USA) vs. Travis Logie (ZAF)
Heat 11: Julian Wilson (AUS) vs. Filipe Toledo (BRA)
Heat 12: Joel Parkinson (AUS) vs. Adam Melling (AUS)

Those five heats are bold for a reason.
