The last few days have been good ones. I’ll just start with Friday. Waves were junky and fun. A few feet overhead with onshore wind. It was like a good day in Florida or something. Super rampy and the hot spot was out at Ehukai Beach Park.
Julian Wilson was surfing Off The Wall and he was impressive. He nearly stomped what would have literally been the biggest air ever done in surfing. Just barely didn’t pull it off. On his next wave he landed a full rotation slob grab air reverse. The guy is a freak. I can’t wait to see his movie that’s coming out soon.
Later in the afternoon it got bigger and shittier. It didn’t even look surfable. Just surging chunks of water and wind like hell. There was only a dozen people even surfing between Rockpiles and Pipe. Bruce Irons was one of them. He was out there with Nathan Fletcher.
All day Saturday it was big and not surfable. We did nothing all day, but we did catch the Alabama vs Florida SEC Championship game where Tim Tebow cried like a little baby when the Gators lost. That was hilarious!
Sunday morning I wake up to Brian Toth frothing out. Pipe and Backdoor were firing and only Damien Hobgood was out. Tothy and Gabe Kling quickly joined and were followed by what seemed like thousands of others within the next hour. It got horrendously crowded and quickly.
Still, there were tons of waves. Peaks were popping up everywhere.
The Matix House porch was just blowing up. Cory Lopez had his computer out watching the Tampa Bay Bucs while my computer was right next to his tuned into the Jaguars game. Our commercial breaks consisted of nodding our heads up to watch people get barreled right in front of us at Pipe. This house is heavenly.
At night we celebrated the WCT qualification of Tanner and Pat Gudauskas, as well as Dusty Payne. Started it off at Fred Pattachia’s guest house and ended it at The Bay Club where drinks are severely overpriced. It was a shit show. Everyone was just completely wasted. I don’t remember much besides the guy who drove us there getting in a car accident. That sucked.
Monday Zander Morton, Olliver Kurtz and I biked to Waimea to watch. Holy shit, that was scary even watching. A closeout set detonated across the whole bay catching at least one guy inside. I am not sure how he lived. Seriously you can’t appreciate what these guys do until you see it in person. Pretty damn amazing, and stupid at the same time. These guys have a death wish. Looks like the Eddie will run tomorrow. Should be a good one!
