Attention spans are short these days.
For the most part, what happens today won’t be much appreciated tomorrow and what happens tomorrow will be completely forgotten by next week.
But what actually happened today will break that mold.
John John Florence just won the 2015 Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational at Waimea Bay. Due to a impeccably high standard, this was only the 9th time the event has been held in its 31-year history — it has to be truly massive for this thing to go. And it was today. Massive, and amazing.
John won in a field that was perfectly mixed with old faces and new. From Clyde Aikau to Jamie O’Brien, Koa Rothman to Ross Clarke Jones, so on and so forth — a handpicked selection of the world’s best big wave surfers manhandled the biggest swell to hit the North Shore in years. With the recent passing of Brock Little, you couldn’t help but feel Brock smiling down upon on his peers. That, and hurling sets at them.
With Eddie of course.
