We’ve always thought that Mason Ho is a bit of a wildcard. But now, it’s official — the 26-year-old Hawaiian will surf in the 2015 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach starting April 1st. The Curl recently signed Mason, and what better way to show off their new purchase than to dangle his talents in in the face of the World Surf League’s finest? None that we can think of.
It’s safe to say that anyone who has ever touched a surfboard is excited to see what conspires when Mason puts that jersey on. And possibly even more excited to see what comes out of his mouth when Petey Mel presses that post-heat microphone to his lips. Ho had this to say going into the event.
“I can’t stop thinking about how fun it’s going to be, almost everything I’ve seen for a couple days has looked like a Bell that had to be rung,” Ho said.
That statement comes in the wake of various reports of Mason attempting to ring inaudible objects up and down Oahu’s North Shore.
Mason will surf in Round 1, Heat 5 against Freddy P. and Mick Fanning. You read that right: Mick Fanning and Mason Ho are going to surf against each other. How’s that for juxtaposition? Mick lives on one end of the spectrum, Mason on the other, and Freddy P. lingers somewhere in the middle — it might just be the perfect heat.
