Where SURFING recognizes surfers before they’re recognizable.

NAME: Cam Richards
AGE: 15
HOME: Pawleys Island, South Carolina
SCHOOL: St. James High School
SPONSORS: Billabong, Kustom, Arnette, Watermans, Gorilla Grip, FCS, Verve.

“This is the third year that we’ve had the NSSA in the mid-Atlantic,” says Cam Richards. “It’s pretty rad; we’ve had fun waves for each event so far.”

You’d say it was “pretty rad” too, if you were the cleaning up contests and collecting points like they’re rookie cards. Cam Richards, a six-time NSSA East Coast Champion, is shaping up to be one of the most talented East Coast surfers since….well, there’s a slew of talent on the East Coast, but Cam’s certainly a part of it.

Cam has managed to claim back-to-back double victories in the Open Juniors and Explorer Juniors at the mid-Atlantic events at Nags Head and Wrightsville Beach thanks to his progressive airs and no holds barred approach to contest surfing. He felt bad winning so much, so he let someone else win the Open Men’s in both of those events, and settled for second.

With a bear hug on the mid-Atlantic conference, Cam has his eyes on an East Coast Championship win and a National title. We won’t bet against him. He’s pretty rad.
