O’Neill’s Generation Next packed every inch of the 7 Degrees gallery in Laguna Beach with hipsters and fashionistas looking to make a mark on the surf world. The event, which paired fashion and design with dance and an MTV-vibe, was the be-seen spot Friday night where 100% of the proceeds from the night went to Boarding for Breast Cancer. Partnering with Teen Vogue the second annual catwalk extravaganza featured four high school designers competing for an internship with the surf brand, plus an O’Neill wardrobe and an education scholarship. Lauren Alvarez, Kari Filardo and Lori Ke all sent O’Neill inspired dresses and handbags down the runway, but it was the designs of Angela Urmanita that nabbed the most votes via text from those in attendance and fans watching online via the O’Neill facebook page . With a performance by Fanny Pak and a jubilant after party, O’Neill showed their wares and upped the ante on fashion-forward design while highlighting up and coming talent.

This year’s Generation Next should be another success. O’Neill and Teen Vogue have started a nice trend here.

Though I don’t have another daughter participating as a finalist in this year’s event like I did in 2008 and 2009 – with Krista Filardo and Kari Filardo respectively, I will have 1 daughter modeling for Alee Ramilrez – Katherine Filardo.

I do have to say however, that this will be the 3rd time around for El Modena High School. Teen Vogue and O’Neill, you have such great support from a high school in Orange County and I think this is great! Next year, there probably will be another future designer competing as well. I think El Modena should be recognized for this. It encourages other schools in the following like Rosary High School.

What a great inspiration for other future designers out there and something their parents can be proud of.

Good luck Alee. Katherine, you and your friends at El Mo are so very gracious to support Alee this year! This is a TEAM EFFORT! So round up everyone in your school and promote this event for Alee to win! Support the cause of this year’s event as well.

Thanks O’Neill and Teen Vogue, for another year of Generation Next.

    Good luck!
