The 2016 Rip Curl Grom Search’s regular season has come to a close.

The final event in Nags Head, NC brought in kids from all around the U.S., along with a few internationals. That’s because this competition was the last opportunity to gain a spot in the national finals, which will be held at Seaside Reef in October.

Despite a flat forecast, the waves on competition day provided ample opportunity for the groms to strut their stuff. Waist high wedges graced the Carolina shores for the entirety of the event, resulting in multiple scores in the excellent range.

In the Boys 16U, it was Elijah Fox who found an open-faced left-hander that he tagged four times en route to an 8.5 This propelled him to victory, and filled his wallet with a cool $250. But he wasn’t the only big winner in this division — Sean Woods nailed the only air of the event, securing him the Banzai Bowls Maneuver of the Event and $150 in $2 bills.

For the Girls 16U, Caroline Marks was the clearr favorite, but it wasn’t until the dying minutes that she found her winning wave. A slopey right-hander allowed her to bang off consecutive backside hacks, resulting in a 7.5 and the heat win. Caroline also won the DHD High Heat Total award for a 16.76 heat total in an earlier round. She walked away with a custom DHD shape for her efforts.

In the Boys 14U, it was Californian Crosby Colapinto who stole the show from east coast stalwart Micah Cantor. Luckily for Micah, he will have a chance to get Crosby back on the West coast come October.

Lastly, the Boys 12U was dominated by Blayr Barton, who boasted a solid 15 point heat total in the final. The other competitors couldn’t match his speed and flow in the small conditions.
