2008 Rip Curl GromSearch Update

posted by / News / March 10, 2008

After blitzing through the 2007 Rip Curl GromSearch National Final presented by BOOST Mobile, Kauai natives Alex Smith and Malia Manuel are making the long sojourn to Bells Beach, Australia to represent the good ol’ red, white, and blue (US and Hawaii) at the Rip Curl GromSearch International Final.

Pitted against the World’s best 16/under wave killas around the globe, Smith and Manuel undoubtedly have their work cut out for them. However, the experience of surfing in conjunction of the Rip Curl Pro WCT is once in a lifetime.

“I am so pumped,” stated Alex this week. “I had a crack at it last year, and came up just short in the final. Surfing in this event is indescribable, because it’s the closest thing to surfing in a real WCT. I’m ready to give it my all.”

In existence for 9 years, the Rip Curl GromSearch has grown to be a leading global junior competition platform with series’ running in South Africa, Brazil, Europe, New Zealand, Indonesia, Australia, and USA. The National Champions in the 16/under divisions have all earned all-expense paid trips to the Rip Curl Pro.

The Rip Curl GromSearch International Final will be webcast live, with the waiting period beginning March 20. Lock in to www.RipCurl.com to catch all the action, highlights, and info.
