Cinematic Stimuli

The First Vision of Kai Neville’s Epic: Modern Collective
By Travis Ferre

Modern Collective - The First Visions from Poor Specimen on Vimeo.

From the looks of this trailer, we’d say Kai Neville is a mod-chip off the old Taylor Steele block: Uniting a group of ultra-hip surfers, caravanning them around the world and changing the face of surfing in the process.

This trailer is the first moving imagery of Kai’s massively hyped debut flick Modern Collective. And while the blog www.ModernCollective.tv has chronicled the making of the film, this trailer is our first cinematic glimpse into the surreal world of six surfing cosmonauts.

As you read this, the boys are all posted up somewhere along the east coast of Australia with SURFING Magazine photog Tom Carey, no doubt laying down clip after clip, adding to the already ample supply of footage. “Surfing with these guys make you surf so much better, you approach it completely differently,” said Mitch Coleborn, who’s been gallivanting the globe compiling clips, which include the film’s first flip. “Just managed to get a sneaky little right down in Baja and thought if I’m gonna fall off doing a turn, I may as well fall off doing a flip. From there I just kinda hit and hope.”

Secret Machine was amazing! Top quality in every way: filming, music, edit, surfing, style and concept.
