Still no ASP WQS events completed this week, but the Arrive Alive Pro at Soldiers Beach on the Central Coast of NSW is due to start on Tuesday. Looks like classic summer weather all week with small wind swells.
Michael Campbell (AUS) is the No. 1 seed there and the only ASP Top 45 competitor in the event. I think the rest have been invited to Mick Fanning’s wedding. However, there are plenty of the top ASP WQS competitors all looking for some valuable points.
In the women’s division, we have a different story with nine of the ASP Top 17 including reigning ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (pictured above) and former event winner Amee Donohoe (AUS), who is surfing great after her third place at the Roxy Pro last week.
Over the Tasman Sea the Billabong Pro Junior at Taranaki in New Zealand was run and won by Owen Wright (AUS) and Laura Enever (AUS), while up at Noosa in the GSI Noosa Festival of Surfing, both divisions were won by ASP World Champs. In the women’s, reigning ASP World Champion Jennifer Smith (USA) took out the honours with Aussie Josh Constable, the 2006 ASP World Champion, the men’s division winner.
The men’s final was an all Aussie affair, but in the women’s USA dominated the top 2 places with Smith and Janna Irons (USA) followed in third by Justine Dupont (FRA) and fourth Selby Riddle (AUS).
