Our photographers took tens of thousands of images during the Vans Triple Crown, and right now we’re locked in our Sunset Beach rental trying to cut those gems down to a select couple hundred. CJ Hobgood had the second heat of the first morning and the waves were more out of control than they were good. He didn't have any dominant heats during his run to the Quarter Finals but he still put on a show. The Hawaiian wildcards are always a threat at Pipe. That threat increases exponentially as the surf height also increases. Nobody was surprised to see Ian Walsh's performance.

Evan Valiere dominated his way to the Quarter Finals where he was set to make $13,750. However, a little-known fact is that the ASP takes a cut of all the wildcard’s pay. A $7,000 cut. Evan netted $6,750 for his epic performance.
