It’s good to see how generous the locals are down there. After waiting for a taxi on the side of the road, this guy went out of his way to give us a ride in the back of his pick up truck. We tried to offer him some cash, but he just refused with a smile. So much for the cartels.
You can’t rely on swell forecasts in Puerto. It seemed like the charts were wrong almost every day, so we did it the old fashion way: Wake up at the crack of dawn and check it yourself. Ricky, an early bird with his worm.
The town of Puerto Escondido is growing so quickly. New restaurants and hotels are constantly popping up. My first trip here was in 2008, and this entire road was all dirt and unpaved at that point. It’s awesome to see how far it’s came.
Angelo Lozano is another young superstar down there. After watching him surf, I immediately realized that this kid has a bright future.
