It’s always a good time of year. The girls are wearing less. You’re practically only going to school to get your yearbook signed at this point and you’ve shed the sleeves off your steamer. The vibe the NSSA West Coast Championships is always fresh and always delivering the shred pie right on time. With a combo swell tangoing all weekend, HB was looking like Bali and the surfers must have thought they filming with Taylor Steele because the level of shredding was beyond cutting edge and quite literally record breaking. The Dream tour is re-thinking a return to Surf City it was so good (not really, but damn it was good).

Kolohe Andino backed up his recent media blitz with a naturally enhanced performance. He made everyone a believer in his highly touted tow head by breaking several records at Regionals. He became the youngest surfer ever to win the Open Mens Regional title at the age of 14. He posted a 19.67 heat total with a 10-point ride and a 9.67 in a quarterfinal heat. He’s now the only surfer to win Open Mens and Open Juniors at Regional event and he now has eight West Coast titles, tying him with Andrew Doheny for most ever. He’s on a collision course for a National title in several divisions.

Another surfer who’s ready for the main stage and showed it was Courney Conlogue. The hard-charging OC local has made winning in solid surf her business and took advantage of the firing Huntington walls. Conlogue’s two-wave point total in the final was 16.17 and a clear call out to her competitors for Nationals. She’s ready. Let’s just hope the southern hemisphere once again cooperates and delivers some Lowers.
