Nat Young continued his winning ways yesterday, doing to Salt Creek what he did to Steamer Lane the week before. But instead of dashing a bunch of WQS Warriors’ hopes, this time he capped off what’s quickly becoming a glowing amateur record. The USA Team member dominated the field at the 10th Annual Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals, throwing tail and flowing with ease in the chunky, overhead combo-swell surf. The win guarantees him an all expense paid trip to Bells for the Rip Curl Pro in April, where he’ll be competing in the World GromSearch Finals in front of the ASP World Tour’s best. “I’ve been doing the GromSearch for a number of years,” said Nat, “and this is a perfect way to end it. Stoked.”

Joining Nat on the trip will be Santa Monica surfer Chandler Parr, who won the hotly contested Girls division. Parr, a fellow USA team member, racked up some big scores with tight snaps in the dumping shorebreak off Salt Creek’s point. Other big winners included San Clemente’s Ian Crane in the Boys 14 and Under division, along with Koa Smith, who’s slowly but surely shedding him Grom Skin and surfing like a man at the tender age of 13.

The original in this type of Super Series, the Rip Curl GromSearch continues to showcase the best amateur talent on offer. After battling through eight different regional events, this was the cream that rose to the top. Judging from their performances, we have a hunch that Young and Parr aren’t going to let up come the World Finals in April.
