2009 PBR Pro

posted by / Photos / December 23, 2009

Last Thursday and Friday, 64 of the east coast’s top surfers gathered in Jacksonville for the first ever Pabst Blue Ribbon Pro to battle it out for a piece of the $10,000 purse. It just so happened to coincide with the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football game between the Jaguars and undefeated Colts, which made things that much more fun. Below is a recap through photos from the event…Results:
1st- Aaron Cormican, $4,000
2nd- Asher Nolan, $2,000
3rd- Blake Jones, $1,000
4th- Bryan Hewitson, $750

The PBR Pro battled stormy weather throughout it's entirety but there were some nice moments where the sun showed face.

Fresh off a WCT Injury Wildcard snub, Gabe Kling stepped off the plane from Hawaii into a car headed straight for Jacksonville Pier. Warm, firing Pipeline to cold, choppy Florida. Not the easiest of transitions, but Gabe ended up placing 5th and he got to attend the Jags game in the process. Well worth the hassle.

Jupiter, FL's Jensen Calloway ramping out in an early round heat.

Fellow South Floridian Wesley Desouza drove all the way up from Deerfield Beach, but ended up losing to Jacksonville local, Karina Petroni. Hurts to lose to a girl, but Karina rips so don't feel too bad Wesley.

Not all of the action was going on in the water. The Mellow Mushroom girls were out and about.

Pabst tattoo. Now that is just badass!

The unofficial Mayor of Jagsonville, Jay Dodson drives over the Hart Bridge for the Jaguars TEALgate party.

Crazy Jag fans

Red Bull funded a DJ for the TEALgate and it completely went off!

A crazy game with 9 lead changes but unfortunately the undefeated Colts came out on top.

Back on the beach for Day 2 with Aaron Cormican and Eric Taylor.

This guy dominates contests for a reason. He's one of the best small wave surfers in the world. Gorkin on his way to $4,000.

Blake Jones lays a smack-down in the Jack-town.

Jacksonville's top local in history Asher Nolan slashed his way to 2nd place.

One final tail whip from Blake Jones.

Gorkin closes the final out.

That's one hell of a trophy. It was made from NASCAR Driver Brian Vickers' wrecked car. On top of 4 G's, Gorkin also won a VIP pass to the Daytona 500 courtesy of Red Bull this February.

To the winner gets the ladies. Congrats to Gorkin.
