Follow The Light 2012 is only two weeks away from awarding $5,000 to the most promising photographer within a final batch of dreamers. Amongst this creative lot are Sarah Lee, Ryan Craig, Mike Smolowe, Shawn Parkin and Matt Kurvin. These finalists embody fresh perspective, angular adventure and individual spirit in well composed photography. To make things more personal, we requested 5 photos that did not make their submitted portfolio, alongside insightful captions. Below, the answers:

I shot this a few weeks ago in Newport with Dillon. Dillon dinged the nose of his board surfing in his button-down shirt and thought he'd have a beer and mull it over in the middle of the beach. One of those images that just happens organically.

    @corey its a deduction because surf photography is not a profession, its a lifestyle of partying, banging girls, and traveling with gay surfers. So he is way over qualified and his parents would not approve.
