posted by / Photos / July 30, 2012

Follow The Light 2012 is only two weeks away from awarding $5,000 to the most promising photographer within a final batch of dreamers. Amongst this creative lot are Sarah Lee, Ryan Craig, Mike Smolowe, Shawn Parkin and Matt Kurvin. These finalists embody fresh perspective, angular adventure and individual spirit in well composed photography. To make things more personal, we requested 5 photos that did not make their submitted portfolio, alongside insightful captions. Below, the answers:

One monday morning, while most were probably commuting to work or sleeping in, a few lucky locals called in sick and scored an unbelievable abundance of picture-perfect tubes, somewhere in Northern NSW. The entire morning was too good to be true.

Stormy weather and dark skies at sunset; the best kind of light... especially while stuck in the middle of the ocean on a tiny sland somewhere in Fiji.

Why is that guy going right at Cloudbreak? And how did that chick in a two-piece get out there, without fins, and manage to bust through a six foot set without even the slightest foam trail? GIVE THIS GIRL THE AWARD RIGHT NOW!!

Very powerful; almost a sense of birth. Sensations of beauty, freedom and joy! I also love the contrast with the surfer above. This is a rare glimpse at some of the glorious dynamics happening underneath the water, out of sight.

I love this photographer’s work! You could truly lose yourself in her world of water, color and beauty! Sometimes I forget to breathe!

Sara is hand’s down the most creative surf photographer I know. And I AM a surf photographer, so for me to put my ego aside and bow down you this young doe, means A LOT. She’s always down, and this girl is a fish. Until you’ve swam through some vicious surf with her, you can’t fully appreciate what she does to capture these images. Keep it up girl, ever inspiring!
