Been Around the World: With DJ Struntz

posted by / Photos / September 2, 2009

To make it as a surf photographer from the East Coast, it’s going to take a little more effort. For DJ Struntz, that “little more” has always been “a lot more.” Not that his talent and skill was ever lacking, but the motivation behind DJ’s photography has pushed him ahead of the curve to make him who he is today. He’s now one of the most established surf photographers in the world and we’re proud to have him on our team.

Arica, Chile. Shallow as ever.

Dylan Graves tucked in back home in Puerto Rico.

Luke Steadman. Magic hour at Restaurants, Fiji.

Kieren Perrow at Backdoor, while JD Irons pulls in at Pipe.

Shea Lopez is always in the right spot. South Florida during the 2008 Hurricane Season.

Cory Lopez tends to be in the right spots as well. Teahupo’o, 2007.

Peter Mendia, one of DJ's favorite subjects. West Africa.

Florida gets swells, too, folks. An outer sandbar in Palm Beach handling the size.

Kelly Slater poses for a moment.

Alex Gray at Rocky Rights.

Mitch Coleborn pulling in at Pipe for Tom Carey (and DJ).

Dion Agius: master of getting the shot.

He would never approve of us using this, but there’s not much he can do now to stop us. Ex-Editor-In-Chief, Evan Slater, creating his own cover blurb in Africa.

Do photographers go over the falls shooting fisheye water shots? The answer is yes, and that's what DJ did to nail this gem of CJ Hobgood at Teahupo’o.

Ben Bourgeois, always on the move. Jupiter, Florida.

Dion Agius, tube time in Morocco while filming for Modern Collective.

7 Days with Adriano De Souza in Brazil.

This is a strange coincidence. DJ accidentally catches a flash from Tim Jones' camera. Something you don't see very often at 1/800th of a second.

Pipe from the hill.

Peter Mendia scoring the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
