Mikala Jones’ father was a surf photographer. While all his siblings (brothers Daniel and Keoni and sister Malia) are best known for their work in front of the camera, MJ’s been mostly applying his shutterbug gene to board-mounted cameras, hand-held tube shots and a variety of other in-water, on-wave, otherwise-unattainable imagery. Impending Hipstomatic addiction was a given. Splitting time between homes in Bali and Hawaii, at home and on the road, here’s a few direct from his iPhone.
Bali’s pretty photogenic. Shot these while I was stuck in traffic after the Padang Padang opening ceremonies.
Another couple lineups. I was probably on a skype call while I shot these, and checking surf reports online. Pretty crazy one little device can do all this. Remember landlines? Barely, huh.
Fun trip to Mex with Walshy and Moody. Walshy got a cover shot. This is Reef filmmaker Ryan Moss and an passover of the town.
Flying into Nias with my brother Daniel and filmmaker Jeremy Rumas, who's been filming with us for his movie Hangs Upon Nothing.
