Empty waves in beautiful light have always inspired me. But now, documenting the moods of the ocean is my main priority. I still love to shoot surfing, but I feel that a wave without a human riding it will never age. There are no sponsor sticker changes, equipment evolution or fashion trends that go into the image — just the same two constants: water and light. I find it far too beautiful to resist. —Ray Collins

13 (Gold Coast) is my favorite! And I really like 14 (Southern New SOuth Wales) as well.

Reminds me of Jon Frank’s work. Absolutely beautiful. Ray makes Clark Little look like a sad, one trick pony. To all of the Clark Little Wannabee’s from around the world–you cant touch or replicate real talent like Ray Collins’ work. Surfing–Thank you for posting these.

    True art.

Moke Nation’s comment (besides “absolutely beautiful”) might be the ugliest, most ignorantly tasteless bunch of words i’ve read in quite some time. Talk about wanna-be’s.. just another social media wanna-be critic that thinks name dropping lesser-known photogs sets him apart from pack. Lame Nation.

Clark Little is an awesome artist, as well Ray Collins is! The waves are completely different with each artist. Ray’s is stunning! I would love to be able to do this. I’m in love with waves and the ocean and it is because of Clark Little inspiring me to want to do this. But now Ray here is inspiring too. Sorry Ray, this is the first I’m ever seeing anything of yours, but I will be looking for more. Beautiful work!!!!

I ask you MV, has your spot, the place where you were born and raised been exploited by Clark Little? Who gives Clark Little the right to show up on an outer island in Hawaii, take pictures at a place that is considered the center of the universe and sacred by all Hawaiians, and tastelessly share it with 850,000 of his closest friends? Have you watched your place, a beach shared by local families for generations be trampled by a marked increase in people and crowds? I ask you this, because the exploitation is real and not imagined. Blowback is a reality of social media, especially when we are talking about sensitive cultural locations.

As a note, Jon Frank is not a lesser photographer. He is in fact, considered one of the finest lensmen in the business.
