There was beer. There was wine. There was rum and there was tequila. But none were as intoxicating as the beautiful women.

Into the night…

Into the night…

After a long hiatus, the SURFING Magazine issue release party made a triumphant return on Thursday at the .T.F.R. Gallery in Encinitas. But the most triumphant return of the evening belonged to Clay Marzo, who graces the cover of our new spooky issue. Clay fell off the surf industry radar a couple of years ago. We recently tracked him down in the Western Australian desert and discovered a man who is quietly redefining freesurfing. There’s a story with more details in the spooky issue. And there’s a staggering West Oz edit, featuring Clay and Matt Meola, which premiered to the crowd on Thursday night. Clay’s deep barrels and Claybacks were the toast of the evening — and with an ever-flowing river of angelic Black Box wine at the bar, there was plenty of toasting happening. Read the Clay profile in the new issue of SURFING, on newsstands now. The full Clay in West Oz edit will be released at surfingmagazine.com on Wednesday, Aug. 20. So be sure to return here — triumphantly — and enjoy.
