Welcome to Pete’s Picks April addition. It’s been a fun month here with trips to Brazil, Samoa, both coasts of Australia, and Puerto Rico. Things are looking good for the next couple of issues as well as online content. I thought I’d give you a sneak peak into our spring break. Even though the water here in Southern California is still a blasted 57 degrees I pray for summer fun like these attached photos. Make sure to tune in next week when we tease you with a photo section from a sneaker Costa Rica trip we did. You won’t be disappointed.

A blasting 57 degrees? Seriously? 57 degrees? If 57 degrees is too cold for you then you seriously need a reality check. In places around the world such as the north east (yeah.. i said it.. the damn east coast) there are guys who fight weather conditions that would make 75% of So Cal release their bowels.. No wonder why half the surf industry (who grow up in wave rich areas) do not fully appreciate the true essance of being able to ride a f*ing wave. You complain about the water being 57 degrees when, for atleast 4 months out of the year, these guys are in 6 mm’s of rubber fighting off ice cream head aches, clean up sets, and bone chilling flush outs just to log a measly 2 hours in water that is anywhere fromm 35-37 degrees (air temp about 20 with 30 mph off shore gusts).. and if this isn’t enough to scare away half the surf world back to their warm cozy fire place, imagine having to wait 2-3 weeks on average to even have a chance at riding a waist high wave at best. Am i upset? Yes. Am I jealous? Absofreakinlutely. Why? Because the majority of individuals who complain about the water being cold (such as you So. Californian’s) have no idea what cold even is. Hell I don’t even know if you guys know what a flat spell is. I extend the opportunity to any surfer, boogie boarder, SUP’er what ever the hell it is you do (extreme freaking kayaker) to spend atleast one whole year on the east coast. I guarantee that your appreciation for being able to spend time in the water will increase ten fold. Not only that but the increase in respect for the individuals who live here will probably blow your mind. Why am I writing this angry post? Because I envy the wave rich “mild” tempered waters and consistant waves of your region. To constantly read or hear surfers complain has finally caught up with me. Appreciate that damn 57 degree water and maybe, just maybe, it will put some hair on your chest! (sorry ladies)
I think Tom Carey won the heat. Nice shoots.
