Just like Rell’s unending commitment to each new generation of our sport, her namesake Menehune Surfing Championships, held this past weekend, kicked off for the 33rd time in true aloha fashion along the legendary Makaha shores. And, as usual, it was a success. Really, Aunty Rell wouldn’t have it any other way. Here are the highlights:
·Bethany Hamilton arrived and donated two boards that she personally signed for two lucky keikis with the Best Sportsmanship — Aunty Rell strongly believed in teaching the keikis to ALWAYS practice sportsmanship, for it was key both sports and life!
The winners were Makana Demate and Kahanu Delovio.
·Kalani Robb arrived and donated two Merrick’s that went to the most deserving contestant — Aunty Rell always incorporated this into the event for keikis that tried their hardest and competed with all their hearts and that weren’t as fortunate to have boards or beach toys lying around for use.
The winners were Alika Manners and Kaniela Stewart
