Steve Sherman is a surf photography icon. His style is well known and easily recognizable. The behind the scenes/in-the-moment/in-your-face scenes he captures are second to none. Every pro surfer or industry bro knows him as a friend. So when I got the chance to go on this trip to Australia and found out Sherm wasn’t coming with me, I knew I had big shoes to fill. Although I mainly concentrated on shooting surf action, which isn’t Sherm’s forte’, any spare time I had was spent trying to emulate one of my favorite surf photographers of all time. Here’s a selection of photos that kind of resemble what Sherm might have brought to you from the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, had he been there.
