Some Answers from Coco Ho
Coco Ho graduated in 2009, in more ways than one. She finished school. She scratched onto the World Tour. Now Coco’s proven she belongs there, rated third going into the Rip Curl Search event in Europe – plus she just locked up the WQS ratings championship for the year. She’s 18. But as you read this, while Coco surfs the ASP contest in Portugal, her house is getting torn apart by Pipeline charger (and master contractor) Ezra Sitt. We asked Coco what that’s about.
What’s happening at your house?
We’re finally doing a remodel. I’ve lived there since day one. My Dad and Mom bought it before they married, and raised both Mason and me there. It’s just between my two home breaks on the North Shore: Sunset and V-land.
Do you have to pound any nails?
Not so much. I have to move into one of the downstairs units this winter while they demolish my upstairs suite.
Is it going to be done for the holidays?
That’s the goal. We’re moving downstairs after Dad and I return from Portugal and Peru. The workers are on fire, they had both downstairs studios tiled, painted, and new appliances in four weeks. Can’t wait for the upstairs! Thank you Ezra [Sitt]! He’s the boss…
Do you have a lot of people staying on your couch in the wintertime?
Yes, and I don’t mind it at all. I’m a social butterfly, so I love having people around. For years now I always have the same crew: Leilani Gryde, Laura Enever, and Nage Melamed. We always have the best time, it’s like sharing a room with sisters I never really had. Plus Mason’s friends come in and out all the time from all over the world.
Who’s a good houseguest and who’s messy?
The boys last year – Eric Rebiere [France] and Leandro Bastos [Brazil] were amazing! Eric cooked every night and Leandro did my chore: the dishes. I was in heaven. I have to say Leila Hurst tops the chart for messy – wet towels and bikinis on the bed and carpet. [Laughs] It’s been awhile though.
You just won the WQS, and your friend Carissa [Moore] is in third. What’s the tour going to be like with her on it next year?
It should be really fun. We’re super good friends in and out of the water. She is a lot of fun to travel with too. We both know what it takes to win and we respect each other, so tour together should be easy.
Would you ride for Target if they offered?
Well, my Dad basically does already, so Mason and I just mooch off him. [Laughs] But yes, I definitely would. They’ve already helped us out so much, I would love to return the favor.
