Been Around the World: With DJ Struntz

To make it as a surf photographer from the East Coast, it’s going to take a little more effort. For DJ Struntz, that “little more” has always been “a lot more.” Not that his talent and skill was ever lacking, but the motivation behind DJ’s photography has pushed him ahead of the curve to make him who he is today. He’s now one of the most established surf photographers in the world and we’re proud to have him on our team.

Like most who step on peoples heads, DJ won't tell you he started shooting at Folly Beach SC. He forgot about all those who helped him get where he is.. so hard to push a trigger.. EAsy to be a donkey photographer..I prefer photogs that can surf, not just kiss ass..

I'm so sorry DJ for the bad comment. I admit I am just jealous of your incredible success.

Congratulations to DJ and Surfing for providing such a great forum to show the talents of a photographer and, just as important, to keeping the Surf world connected to where the art of surfing is happening and by whom - the surfers. The photogs deserve a little sunshine every now and then since everything you get to enjoy in a magazine is because they are bustin' ass to get those shots! By the way, "Mr cj -Penis envy?- Folly Beach" have your local paper fly DJ into Charleston to do a feature article. I sure you will find that DJ remembers his early beginnings most fondly since he still has many friends in the area. Even his old man isn't mentioned and he bought the kid his first camera...so enjoy colateral success!:) Cheers to DJ and Surfing! wDJs

Great work Scuba! Wouldn't have done it any other way, bra. Think you're gonna have to watch your back, Short man ain't gonna be happy with the caption on shot 29. Keep nailing it, maybe you'll get on a boat trip sometime soon.

After breaking my back and recovering for 5 years, I heard this guy was here in Panama doing shots, they I went to the toilet, reading a magazine and saw his work, then realized it was the same lower body exercise I did in the swimming pool but this was back in my world, bought an SPL housing, fins and a nice canon camera and started shooting 1.5 years ago right after DJ had been here. This is my work influenced by the guy, http://www.PanamaSurfPhotos.Org.
