Considering things are going so well in Mexico right now…. Yeah, not so much. But a little help from a very generous fashion photog named Anne Menke, her husband Johann Ackermann and their very media-friendly friends is a bright light in a very dark period for many parts of northern Mex.
Menke founded the Costa Verde International School in Sayulita, Mexico — which is the country’s first “green” school — to simply give the local kids there an opportunity to get the best education possible. And having dudes like Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Tom Curren, Pat O’Connell and others drop by to your fundraising auction usually helps with the crowd factor.
On Thursday, April 2, the crew and the public showed up in Santa Barbara to bid on one-of-a-kind surf inspired items that ranged from photos to surfboards to hard goods to high-end travel packages. Then the Tom Curren Band and Redswitch plugged in capped things off with a few smooth riffs.
