How did you get into designing bikinis?
I’ve had a passion for swimwear for as long as I can remember. I used to save my allowance to buy bikinis (much to my father’s dismay). Then, when I was old enough, I worked in a bikini shop called Shapes Body wear. It was there that I learned to make custom swimsuits and I was hooked. I changed my major to fashion design and the rest is history. I’ve been designing suits for 18 years.

What’s your perfect bikini?
A Volcom suit with a simple black triangle/tie-side bikini. The fabric and fit are perfect. I know I can put that suit on and it will make me feel great!

What trend do you think will be hot next year?
I think there will be a lot more construction to bras…underwire tops, push up bras…smaller cuts on bottoms and beautiful color and understated details.

What inspires you as a designer?
Inspiration comes from everywhere. Sometimes it’s a particular print, piece of art, color story, a furniture store, a song, an old movie, a long run, a clear mind…just depends on the day.

What would your dream vacation be?
A dream vacation would be returning to the Four Seasons on the Big Island. I was fortunate enough to go there last year and it was the MOST AMAZING place I have ever been. I would love to do it all over again… except maybe next time I would figure out a way to stay forever!
