Pete Devries, Noah Cohen // Vancouver Island // 19:48

There’s something so rugged about surfing in the Pacific Northwest. It’s not the biting cold air, the craggy coastline or the exposure to heavy North Pacific swell. It’s not even the killer whales. It’s the surfers themselves — guys like Peter Devries and Noah Cohen (featured here) who hurl themselves into these savage conditions regularly, clad in rubber armor, hunting waves by way of boat, warming themselves by way of campfire, and while nesting in these steely waters, hucking wild airs and burying themselves in frigid barrels. These men are true gladiators of our sport — the one’s who surf where being a surfer ain’t easy, and somehow manage to make it look fantastic.
